Pot pie is a savory dinner cut up and mixed in a pie. It’s mainly made up of some kind of meat, like poultry, seafood or beef. There are also usually vegetables like peas, carrots and potatoes and a type of gravy or broth all mixed together with the meat and put in a pie crust.
Turkey Pot Pie Ingredients
The ingredients used in this easy turkey pot pie recipe are pretty common for the most part but lets go over a few in case they aren’t as common for you.
- Turkey – Use leftover turkey that you have in the fridge! You can also use store bought turkey or even chicken in this recipe.
- Nature’s Seasoning- This seasoning is from the brand Morton and is a combination of onion, garlic, salt and pepper. You can find Nature’s Seasoning in the baking and cooking aisle of your local grocery store.
- Thyme- Thyme is an herb and is pronounced “time”. For this turkey pot pie recipe, you will want to use sprigs of thyme and they can be found with the other fresh herbs in the produce section.
- Pie Crust- You can use a pre-made pie crust or make a homemade pie crust for this turkey pot pie recipe. Don’t let homemade pie crust scare you! It’s really pretty simple.
- Half and half- Half and half is half milk and half heavy cream and is used mostly in cooking and as coffee creamer. You can find it by either the milk or the other coffee creamers kept in the fridge.

These are the exact ingredients you’ll need to make this delicious turkey pot pie recipe.
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 onion, diced
- 1/3cup flour
- 1/2 teaspoon Nature’s Seasoning
- 3 sprigs thyme, leaves separated from stem
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp pepper
- 1 cup chicken broth
- 2/3 cup half and half
- 20 oz mixed vegetables, thawed
- 2 cups turkey, shredded
- 2 pie crusts
- 1 egg beaten
How to Make Turkey Pot Pie with Leftover turkey
This leftover turkey pot pie recipe is easy to put together and even easier to eat! Here’s what you do.
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 400°.
Step 2: Warm your skillet on medium-high. Once it is warm, melt your butter.
Step 3: Add in your onions. Mix and cook for about five minutes to soften the onions. Once they become translucent, add in your flour.
Step 4: Mix in your seasoning, thyme, and salt and pepper. Continue to mix until everything is incorporated with your flower. It should look thick.
Step 5: Alternate pouring in a small amount of your half-and-half, and chicken broth. Continue to do this until your broth and half-and-half is gone.
Step 6: Add in your turkey, and mix together until fully incorporated.
Step 7: Lay one pie crust on the bottom of your pie pan. Pour in your turkey pot pie mixture. With the back of a spoon smooth out the pot pie mixture so that it is even in the pie pan.
Step 8: Beat your egg in a small separate bowl. With a brush, brush your egg mixture over the remaining crust to create a seal. Place the other crust on top and pinch together the sides of your pot pie.
Step 9: Using a sharp knife cut lines in the top of your pie crust to vent. Brush more egg on top of the crust on the side as well as the center of the cross.
Step 10: Place your pie in the oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the crust is lightly brown.
Step 11: Allow your pie to cool for about 15 minutes before cutting into it.
Step 12: Serve and enjoy!
