What Are Candied Almonds?
Candied Almonds are sweet almonds that have the perfect blend of spices on them. Rather than just traditional almonds, these nuts have a sweet coating applied to them that gives them more of a crunch while adding additional flavor to them.
Candied Almonds Ingredients
Prepare the Candied Almonds with the following essential ingredients:
- Egg White. Use egg white to create a base that will get applied to the almonds.
- Cream of Tartar. The cream of tartar gets mixed with the egg white and other ingredients combined with the almonds.
- Vanilla Extract. Adding vanilla extract to your mix is a great way to enhance the taste of your fresh almonds.
- Almonds. Of course, you need to have almonds to create delicious Candied Almonds.
- Brown Sugar. The brown sugar adds a great touch to the almonds.
- White Sugar. In addition to brown sugar, white sugar is a nut-have when preparing these almonds.
Here are the exact measurements:
- 1 egg white
- 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 4 cups almonds
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
Note: while you can add 1 teaspoon cinnamon, I personally preferred these almonds without.
How to Make Candied Almonds
Making Candied Almonds is quite simple. Follow the steps below:
Step 1 Prep
Preheat oven to 275F. Line a baking sheet with a silicone baking mat or parchment paper. If using parchment paper, you may want to apply a light spray of cooking oil to prevent sticking. Set aside.
Step 2 Beat Wet Ingredients
With an electric mixer, beat the egg white and cream of tartar until light and frothy, about 4 minutes. Beat in the vanilla until just combined.Fold the almonds into the egg white mixture, coating completely.
Step 3 Mix Dry Ingredients
In a small separate bowl, combine the sugars and salt.
Step 4 Combine Dry Ingredients and Wet Ingredients
Stir the sugar mixture into the almond mixture until completely combined.
Step 5 Add Almonds and Bake
Fold the coated almonds onto your prepared baking sheet and bake for 45 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes. Bake until the almond coating is as crunchy as you desire – they will be a bit sticky, but the stickiness will go away as they cool at room temperature.
Step 6 Let Cool
Allow almonds to cool on the baking sheet fully before breaking up and storing or serving.
How to Store Leftovers
Store your extra Candied Almonds in an airtight container to keep them fresh. When kept in the airtight container on a kitchen table or in the pantry, the almonds will stay fresh for a week. If you put them in the fridge, you can keep them fresh for up to three weeks.
Can I Freeze Candied Almonds?
You can freeze these nuts if you want to make them in advance for a special event. If you choose to freeze the Candied Almonds, you can preserve them for up to two months as long as you keep them in an airtight container.
Other Candied Nuts to Try
Candied Almonds are delicious, but if you are not too fond of almonds, you can try other types of candied nuts while still using this recipe. Candied peanuts, pecans, and macadamia nuts are all great options. Here are some of my favorite recipes:
