I absolutely love running to Starbucks to grab a delicious chocolate croissant to go with my iced coffee on my way to run errands but who has a wallet deep enough to hit a Starbucks almost daily? These wonderful chocolate croissants are really easy to make at home and my kids love that they can have them all the time instead of just as an occasional treat from our favorite coffee shop.
As a parent with kids, I don’t have time to make everything from scratch which is why I love making this recipe. It literally takes 2 ingredients and these chocolate croissants can be whipped up in no time. If you haven’t ever had them, you are sure to love them too.
What are Chocolate Croissants?
Chocolate croissants are like regular croissants but with melted chocolate in the middle. They make for a delicious snack or even as a quick, mouth watering breakfast. I always make sure to make extra when I make them for breakfast because all day at school, my kids look forward to coming home and grabbing one as an afternoon snack.
Chocolate Croissant Ingredients
The amazing chocolate croissants only need two ingredients! This makes them an ideal snack or even breakfast because one bag of chocolate chips will make multiple batches and premade puff pastry in the cans won’t take up much room in the fridge, meaning you can have the ingredients on hand at all times! This recipe makes 12 croissants but the recipe can easily be doubled if desired.
- 1 sheet puff pastry
- 1 cup chocolate chips
How to Make Copycat Starbucks Croissants at Home
Not only is this chocolate croissant recipe easy to make, it’s also pretty quick! You will probably have a prep time of about 5 minutes and your bake time is between 10 and 12 minutes.
First, preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Then, unroll the puff pastry and slice into 2×3 inch rectangles.
Next, place a tablespoon of chocolate chips in the center. After you place the chocolate chips in the center, pinch the edges, leaving the side edges open.
Finally, bake for 10-12 minutes or until the tops are golden brown and the chocolate is melted out a bit.
Remove, allow to cool and serve.
Do These Taste Like the Starbucks Version?
They sure do! Depending on the brand of premade puff pastry you buy, the taste may vary ever so slightly but for the most part, I don’t notice a difference! I usually use the Pillsbury brand but I have also used the local grocery stores store brand and it tasted the same.
How to Store Leftovers?
To store your leftover chocolate croissants, you will want to place them in a ziplock bag with as much air squeezed out as possible. You can leave them on your counter or place them in the fridge, just keep in mind, in the fridge they will last a few days longer than on the counter. On the counter, they will last about 3 days but in the fridge they will last about 5 days.
Can I Freeze Chocolate Croissants?
Unfortunately, these chocolate croissants can’t be frozen. If you were to freeze them, after unthawing and trying to rewarm, the croissants would be hard and the chocolate would be dry. These delicious chocolate croissants are at their best fresh out of the oven and after being stored in a ziplock bag for up to a few days after. If you really want to freeze them anyway, you will probably want to melt some chocolate to drizzle on the top after you thaw them and rewarm them so they are less dry.
What Drinks Pair Well with Chocolate Croissants?
