Have you heard of fluffy coffee? It’s actually called dalgona coffee and is all the rage right now. Dalgona is whipped coffee that is served over milk. It’s the new hot (or cold) coffee trend in town. Let me show you how to make this DIY coffee drink at home in about 5 minutes.
I will admit that whenever there is a new coffee trend or flavor I am one of the first ones to try it. I have to know if it’s as amazing as everyone on social media is saying it is. Plus, I just love a good coffee.
When this fluffy coffee started to show up, I knew I had to try it. Since I am an avid coffee drinker, I already had all the ingredients in my kitchen.
In fact, I bet you have most of the ingredients on hand too. You are a few steps away from making your own fluffy (or floofy) coffee at home.
What is dalgona coffee?
Dalgona has Indian origins and combines equal parts instant coffee, sugar and water together. You whip together the mixture until it becomes creamy and yes, a little bit fluffy. The fluffy coffee is then scooped on top of milk, either hot or iced.
This dalgona recipe also goes by whipped coffee, Tiktok coffee, and even beaten coffee. It’s pretty popular across social media right now and probably has a few other names too.
Whipped coffee ingredients
The best part of this diy coffee drink is that you only need 3 ingredients to make this dalgona recipe. You will need:
- Instant coffee
Instant coffee – You can use any type of instant coffee you’d like to make fluffy coffee. I like Nescafe Instant Coffee but you can use whatever instant coffee you’d like. Death Wish is an instant coffee that claims to be the world’s strongest coffee, so it may be fun to try!
Can I use regular brewed coffee?
No, it doesn’t whip up like instant coffee does. You can use instant espresso if you’d like but not regular coffee.
Sugar – Any sugar you want will work in this recipe. Regular white sugar, raw sugar or even coconut sugar. Just make sure to use a granulated sugar.
How to make whipped coffee
Once you have your ingredients you will need to grab:
- a large bowl
- measuring spoons
- hand mixer or stand mixer or milk frother or a whisk or immersion blender
Step 1: Place the instant coffee, sugar and hot water in your bowl. You need hot water in order to dissolve the instant coffee.
Step 2: Using your mixer of choice start to whip the coffee mixture in the bowl. Continue to whip until creamy and soft peaks form.
Depending on what you use it could take between 5-20 minutes to reach soft peaks. The hand mixer and stand mixer will take about 5 minutes. The frother will take 8-10 minutes and the
Step 3: Pour your milk into your glass, either hot or iced, and scoop the whipped coffee on top of the milk. Stir a little to incorporate the coffee into the milk and enjoy.
You can use whatever milk that you like here – regular milk, almond milk, or even coconut milk.
This recipe is enough for 2 cups of whipped coffee.
How to store leftovers
You can place any leftover whipped coffee in an airtight container in the fridge. When you want to use it again, pull it out, give it a quick stir or whip and add it to your favorite milk.
Can I freeze whipped coffee?
You can! Make a big batch and freeze the leftovers for easy coffee in the morning. Place any leftover coffee in an airtight container and place in the fridge. The whipped coffee will not harden and will be easy to scoop. Give it a quick stir before adding it to your milk.
Whipped coffee variations
The fun thing about this coffee is that you can easily change it up with a few simple additions.
Make a vanilla whipped coffee by adding vanilla extract to the mix.
Make chocolate whipped coffee by adding cocoa powder to the mix or chocolate syrup to the cup.
You can also make a raspberry whipped coffee by adding fresh raspberries to the whipped topping.
