Yesterday I shared my super easy whipped body butter recipe and today Im sharing a slightly different version – whipped body wash. This was just as easy to make and smelled just as good. [Hello lavender!] Plus, it leaves your skin feeling moisturized all day. Check out how easy it is to make and whip [pun intended] your own!
To make this whipped body wash you will need:
- Coconut oil [LouAna for the win!]
- A few drops of essential oil
- Soap [I used Mrs. Meyers Lavender hand soap.]
I scooped out the entire bottle of coconut oil and heated it for 12-ish seconds. [I used half to make the whipped body wash and the other half to make this body wash.] I added a few drops of the Lavender essential oil and whipped the coconut oil for 5-ish minutes. [Enough time to take it from pale yellow to a fluffy white.] I removed half and then added 4 pumps of the soap into the mixer and whipped it for an additional minute. I scooped it all out into the glass container and set it in the bathroom. [Ps.. how cool is that picture of the whisk? It just looks so neat!]
Once you are done, keep your body wash [and body butter] in a cool place. Coconut oil is a solid until it comes in contact with heat and will melt on contact.
I used it on the kiddos last night for their bath and it smelled so good! And their skin was so soft. They both have really sensitive skin and it was very flaky from our trip to Michigan last week. I added a little bit of the body butter to Avery’s legs [where his excema is the worst] after their bath and they are already healing up. I also use in their hair [as well as my own] to help with the flaking. Its such an easy recipe and the benefits are just awesome.
Whipped Body Wash
Ingredients
- 1 cup coconut oil
- 4-5 drops of essential oil of your choice
- 4 pumps of soap
Instructions
- Mix everything together and then whip it with a stand or hand mixer.
- Store in an airtight container in a cool place.
Notes
- Coconut oil will melt on contact so keep it somewhere cool.

Kelley, this looks so smooth and lush for your skin. I love whipped body butter, but I’ve never seen whipped wash. Love your creativity. Pinning.

Thanks Jelli! Yea, just add the soap and you’re good to go! Kinda cool, huh? ๐

kelley, i would like to now how long it last ? Can you make a huge batch ? ( sorry french is my first language haha)
Kelley says
I would say a month but maybe longer. ๐
Heather says
Hi Kelley, Have you ever had a problem with your coconut oil whipping? I have been whipping 1 cup in a stand mixer for nearly 10 minutes. It is still yellow and liquid. Any suggestion?
Kelley says
Oh no. I’ve never had a problem and I’ve made this a couple times now. I would maybe try a higher speed? Thats all I can think. I hope it helps!
lori says
Can I ask you to measure what 4 pumps would be? I know that’s silly, but I don’t have a single pump bottle in my house right now!
Kelley says
Its about a tablespoon. And not silly at all! Hope that helps! ๐

Hi I love making my own soaps & loved this recipe but I can not get it to soap up at all to use on a sponge. Do u have any tips to make it soap up like body wash?? Thanks
Kelley says
Hey Jessica! It depends on the type of soap that you use. If you use an all natural soap or one with very little chemical additives, it won’t get all soapy. I hope that helps!
Jessica says
Ok thank u for letting me know. I used the same thing that u used. Nxt time I make it I may use something different. I did add some dawn to it after I noticed it wouldnt get soapy but it still wont soap up so Im not real sure what to use. Do u have any suggestions? Me & my son both have sensitive skin also so its so hard to find soaps that we can use. I found one brand called bungalow bath n body soaps but the girls is no longer making them from what it says online. Thats what usually happens I find one I really like then they quit selling it. Again thank u.
Kelley says
Maybe the coconut oil stops it from soaping up as well then? I haven’t tried it with a bubbly soap so I’m not sure. I apologize! I love Gnarly whale products. They have bar soaps that are amazing and all natural. I use them on my kiddos who have sensitive skin. Here is the site – http://www.thegnarlywhale.com/

Looking forward to trying this. Thank you for sharing!
I noticed in your article you mentioned your son having excema. My very dear friend is making a healing salve that worked wonders on my own excema. She is a massage therapist and certified herbalist. Fortunately, she made up this product as a holiday gift for friends last year. With amazing success stories pouring in from near and far, a small, all natural company was born. It has proven itself to be a fantastic healing ointment for excema, rashes, acne, burns and various other skin ailments . Please check her out at http://www.leafplusroot.com
Best wishes. Off to make some soap.
PS I know it’s been close to a year but I’d love to urge Jessica and any others not to use Dawn on your skin…it’s horribly drying and I’ve know it to be a culprit in many allergy induced skin conditions.
Kelley says
Thanks so much for the recommendation Megan! I will check her out!

I was just wondering if letting all that coconut oil go down your drain would eventually clog it. It is an oil that solidifies when cold. When oil pulling, they tell you to spit it out in the garbage so as not to clog your drains. Have you heard of any problems with this? Thanks.
Kelley says
No, no problems over here. But that is a good point! I use so little of the body wash (a little goes a long way!) that I haven’t worried about it. Very good point though!
Celine says
Doesn’t the coconut oil solidify in the pipes in the winter or with cold water? I has always heard that saturated fatty acids shouldn’t be sent down a plumbing system as they can cause blockages and burst pipes. Just curious if you has looked into it.
Kelley says
Hey Celine! I have not.. I live in South Texas so I don’t worry about pipes freezing down here! haha! But it is a valid concern. I wish I had an answer for you.
Deb says
I want to try this recipe! I’m very excited as it will be my first time doing something like this. I wanted to find out what type of pump soap you use before I go buy anything. Thanks for sharing!
