I think by now everyone knows about my love for coconut oil [see 5 uses for coconut oil, whipped body butter and whipped lavender sugar scrub]. It just has so many amazing uses [more then 5 of course] and really is turning into a staple in our house. The more I dig into the world of natural living the more I am learning. One reader left this comment and Im so glad she shared it!

If you buy unrefined coconut oil, you will get the wonderful coconut smell. Refined coconut oil, like the LouAnna takes the smell out. – Angie

Cool, huh? I just bought two jars of unrefined because I want some wonderful coconut smell in my life! Today Im sharing one more natural beauty uses for coconut oil and it may be my favorite. Check out how to make this amazing whipped lip scrub! [Hint – its easy!]

This is another cheater recipe for me because all I did was add one ingredient to my whipped lavender sugar scrub to make this lip scrub. All I added to the sugar scrub was honey. So easy and man did it make my lips soft! Here is what you will need to make your own

Whipped coconut oil [see this post on how to do that]

Lavender essential oil

Coarse sugar [I used Sugar in the Raw and it turned out ahhh-mazing!]

Honey

Follow the instructions on how to make the whipped body butter. Add your essential oil, sugar and honey and mix until blended. Let cool. Add a small amount to your lips and rub it in. Remove and enjoy soft, moisturized, healthy lips all day!

I used this yesterday morning and I swear my lips are still as soft today as they were yesterday. This is great in the winter because it exfoliates and locks in moisture at the same time. No more dry, peeling lips! Its coconut oil to the rescue! [And honey, lavender and sugar.] Just one more reason I love me some coconut oil!

Are you ready for another beauty recipe that uses coconut oil? Today I have another product that is not only super easy to make but also helps eliminate harmful chemicals from your bathroom. Plus, it smells amazing and leaves your skin oh so soft. [Seriously, whats not to love?!] I think the best part about this sugar scrub is that you use ingredients that you probably already have around the house to make it. Check out how easy it is to make and whip up your own!

I feel like I should tell you that I cheated when I made this sugar scrub. I didn’t make it from scratch because I already had it half made with the whipped body butter. All I really did was add the sugar. But even if you haven’t made the body butter, don’t worry! Its still so easy to make. All you will need is:

1 cup coconut oil

4-5 drops of essential oil

coarse sugar

So if you already have some whipped body butter then all you do it add some sugar to it and mix. If you don’t, then take your coconut oil and melt it slightly in the microwave. Add it and a few drops of essential oil to a stand or hand mixer. Whip for about 5 minutes. Remove from the mixer and add in your sugar. Enjoy in the bath and feel moisturized all day! [Yup, that easy!]

I like to use this on my hands, elbows and my heels. Its great for removing exfoliating and removing dead skin. And the coconut oil locks in the moisture. I don’t use it everyday, maybe twice a week or so. Its safe enough to use on your kiddos but I normally stick to the whipped body wash for them.

Ps.. check back tomorrow for the whipped sugar scrub I talked about in the video!

Yesterday I shared my super easy whipped body butter recipe and today Im sharing a slightly different version – whipped body wash. This was just as easy to make and smelled just as good. [Hello lavender!] Plus, it leaves your skin feeling moisturized all day. Check out how easy it is to make and whip [pun intended] your own!

To make this whipped body wash you will need:

Coconut oil [LouAna for the win!]

A few drops of essential oil

Soap [I used Mrs. Meyers Lavender hand soap.]

I scooped out the entire bottle of coconut oil and heated it for 12-ish seconds. [I used half to make the whipped body wash and the other half to make this body wash.] I added a few drops of the Lavender essential oil and whipped the coconut oil for 5-ish minutes. [Enough time to take it from pale yellow to a fluffy white.] I removed half and then added 4 pumps of the soap into the mixer and whipped it for an additional minute. I scooped it all out into the glass container and set it in the bathroom. [Ps.. how cool is that picture of the whisk? It just looks so neat!]

Once you are done, keep your body wash [and body butter] in a cool place. Coconut oil is a solid until it comes in contact with heat and will melt on contact.

I used it on the kiddos last night for their bath and it smelled so good! And their skin was so soft. They both have really sensitive skin and it was very flaky from our trip to Michigan last week. I added a little bit of the body butter to Avery’s legs [where his excema is the worst] after their bath and they are already healing up. I also use in their hair [as well as my own] to help with the flaking. Its such an easy recipe and the benefits are just awesome.

One thing that I have learned since starting our natural living journey is that everyday household items are used a lot. Every time I get in the shower I see things that use to be only in my kitchen on my shelves. One of my go to beauty products that does double duty is coconut oil. I use it more often in my bathroom then I do in my kitchen. That may sound odd but let me share 5 of my favorite uses for coconut oil [other then cooking] and maybe you’ll add a jar to your bathroom as well!

First, there are two types of coconut oil – refined and unrefined. Unrefined coconut oil smells like coconut! Oh happy day! Refined does not as it has been processed. I use coconut oil probably once or twice a week because a little goes a long way. Here are the 5 ways that I use coconut oil during the week.

1. Hair mask – Amanda from a Royal Daughter told me that she used coconut oil on her [beautiful] curly hair and I was intrigued. Im always willing to try anything that will help tame my hair beast. As I started to use it once or twice a week, I noticed that it also helped my psoriasis on my scalp. After a few months I was even able to stop using my medicine for my scalp because it removed mostly all of it! Plus, it moisturizes my hair and leaves it super soft after. When I use it I start with the coconut oil and then use shampoo to wash it out. [And it still leaves my hair soft after.] The coconut oil can be well, oily, so I want to make sure my hair doesn’t look greasy after. The coconut oil then shampoo method works best for that.

To use as a hair mask – scoop out some coconut oil and apply it to your roots and scalp while in the shower. Twist it into a bun and let it sit for about 5 minutes. Rinse out then apply your shampoo.

A few words of caution: coconut oil will leave your tub slippery after so be sure the person after you knows that. I step out of the shower and turn the water really hot so that it will help get rid of the oil on the tub floor.

2. Shaving cream – I ditched regular shaving cream years ago mainly because it was expensive and I seemed to go through it quickly. [Two things I don’t really like.] Instead I use my handy dandy [earth friendly] coconut oil. Its super easy and it leaves my legs feeling so soft! Just apply it to your legs and shave as you would normally.

Again the coconut oil is oily so I apply it, shave and then use a sugar scrub after to finish the job. It leaves my legs silky smooth and it lasts at least 2 days! [Win!]

3. Cuticle cream – This one is something that is a great effort of using it regularly in the shower. It moisturizers my whole hands but my cuticles get the main benefit since I use my finger tips to apply it to my scalp and legs.

4. Lip balm – Apply it to your lips while you are in the shower for an amazing all day lip balm. You can add a little sugar to some coconut oil and make a lip scrub.

Check out this recipe for a DIY whipped lip scrub! Its fabulous!

5. Moisturizer – Im sure its clear that coconut oil is a great moisturizer. I use it on my elbows, my knees and any other dry part of my body while in the shower. I let it sit on the dry spot for a few minutes and rinse it off.

Here is a super easy homemade whipped body butter. All you need is two ingredients!

One last tip about using coconut oil – buy the cheapest one possible. Coconut oil by nature is an organic product, so when you see an extra ultra super organic version, it probably comes with a extra ultra super organic price tag. I buy the LuAnna brand and it works great.

We are heading home from Michigan today so I will be adding videos to my natural living series once we are settled back home. Also, if you want to see what the other moms are up to, follow the #30daymom hashtag. Ill be back tomorrow with another natural living idea from our family to yours!
