What is a freakshake?
A freakshake is a milkshake that is extra thick and has additional ingredients added to the top of the shake or outside of the cup it’s on. It’s a milkshake that’s extra tasty. The fun thing about freakshakes is that you can easily make them your own! You can add all your favorite toppings to your finished shake and make it truly unique. Once you start making this monster milkshakes, you will be hooked!
Chocolate Freakshake Ingredients
My suggestion is to start with my freakshake recipe and then build on it based on what you love. To make my chocolate freakshake you will need:
- chocolate milk
- chocolate ice cream
- marshmallows
- dark chocolate chips
- milk
- chocolate
- white chocolate
Chocolate milk – The base of this drink is chocolate milk, which helps make it extra chocolate-y! Feel free to use your favorite chocolate milk here! Out of chocolate milk? Use my homemade chocolate sauce recipe to whip up a batch! You will also need some chocolate sauce to top your shake at the end.
Chocolate ice cream – Double down on the chocolate with your favorite chocolate-y ice cream! Whatever chocolate ice cream you like will work great here.
Dark Chocolate Chips – Triple the chocolate with some dark chocolate chips! You can find these in the baking aisle at the grocery store. You will also want to grab some white chocolate chips too!
Milk – Whatever milk you prefer will work here. Skim, 2%, whole or even heavy cream will be just fine.
Marshmallows – Mini marshmallows are added to the top of the shake so grab a bag of those while you are in the baking aisle.
How to make a chocolate freak shake at home

There are really two main steps to create this freak shake. Make the shake and add the extras – both are super simple to do too!
Step 1: Blend. Combine your ice cream, chocolate milk and regular milk in a high powered blender. Blend until smooth.
While you are blending or sometime before, melt some of the chocolate in the microwave or double boiler. Line the inside of the cup by pouring the chocolate down from the lip and use the back of a spoon to spread it out.
Step 2: Decorate. Gently pour the milkshake into your chocolate lined cup. Add your whipped cream, melted chocolate and marshmallows on top. Have fun with it! Break off pieces of the other chocolates and attach them to the side of the cup or on top of the cream.
There is no right or wrong way to build your chocolate freak shake!
