Sometimes I try a new recipe and it gets taste tested and just kind of sits there. And then sometimes I create a new recipe that goes flying off the plate faster then I can photograph it. This recipe is the second one. My kids are big fans of popcorn to begin with, so adding the extras into it made them extra excited. Plus, its an easy homemade recipe that Im sure will impress friends and family at say a Halloween party. Or Thanksgiving. Or Monday night football. Whatever the event this salted caramel apple popcorn is sure to be the star.
So to make your own salted caramel apple popcorn you will need:
- Salted butter popcorn
- Caramel [the kind you use for caramel apples]
- Caramel apple candy corn [I found mine at Big Lots but you can get them on Amazon.]
Pop your popcorn and spread it out over a cookie sheet. Melt your caramel according to the package. [Mine said to microwave it for 30 seconds then mix and repeat as necessary.] Drizzle the caramel sauce over the popcorn. Before it hardens add the apple candy corn. Toss it all together and let it cool.
As soon as my kids heard the popcorn popping in the microwave there ran into the kitchen and started asking for some. It was hard having to hold them back long enough to add the caramel and the candy corn. So once it was all put together and cooled I had to dish it out to them immediately. There are like little popcorn vultures that were descending on their prey.
I don’t really blame them though, because this popcorn was amazing! Sometimes I got a salty, buttery bite and sometimes I got a salty, caramely apple bite and sometimes I got both. It was like I was eating all the flavors of fall. And Im ok with that.
